PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Albertus Magnus baseball team cruised to a 12-1 victory over Norwich University on Saturday evening in Purchase, N.Y. The Falcons improve to 5-7 on the year and 2-1 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play with the victory while the Cadets fall to 5-4 overall and 0-1 in conference.
Tyler Robertson (Cheshire, Conn.) led the Falcons with a 2-for-4 performance to go along with one run scored and four RBI. Mike Barillaro (Meriden, Conn.) toed the rubber for the Falcons and went the distance, giving up just one run on six hits. He walked two batters but struck out six in seven frames.
Albertus struck first with four runs in the second inning. Robertson tallied an RBI single in the frame, while Sedia tallied two of his three RBI in the inning as well.
The Falcons extended their lead to 5-0 in the fourth as Steven Lockman (Wallingford, Conn.) doubled and later scored on a fielder's choice by Robertson.
In the bottom of the fifth, Albertus scored five more runs on three hits and two errors. The Falcons also earned three walks in the frame. Kubilus registered two RBI on a double, while Robertson had an RBI single to help the Falcons take the 10-0 lead.
Albertus scored two more runs in the sixth inning thanks to RBIs from Mike Saia (Bridgeport, Conn.) and Robertson.
For Norwich, the Cadets were led by freshman Eddie Gates (Griswold, Conn.) with a 2-for-3 outing. Sophomore Jacob Muetteries (Boxford, Mass.) took the loss on the hill to even his record to 1-1 on the year. He allowed 12 runs on nine hits. He struck out four batters but walked seven in the contest.
The Cadets are next in action on Wednesday, April 1st for a non-conference game at Daniel Webster. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
