PURCHASE, N.Y – The Norwich University baseball team was swept by Albertus Magnus College in a doubleheader hosted at SUNY Purchase on Thursday afternoon. The first game served as a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest while the second was non-conference.
In game one the Cadets fell 2-1, while game two finished as a 3-0 loss.
In the afternoon’s first contest Norwich got on the board in the top of the fourth inning as sophomore Tim Dargan (Bremerton, Wash.) lined a single to right field, plating sophomore Kyle Dombrowski (Griswold, Conn.) from third base to make it 1-0.
That lead held up until the bottom of the sixth inning when the Falcons tied the game on a sacrifice fly by () Mehmedi. Magnus took the lead on a Jack Pritchard RBI single to left field that scored Tyler Robertson from second base.
Norwich senior Brandon Place (Concord, N.H.) took the loss for the Cadets despite a complete-game, three-hit performance. Both runs he allowed were unearned and he allowed no walks while striking out two batters. Place falls to 2-1 on the year.
In game two the Cadet bats were stymied by the Falcons pitchers, recording just three hits in the 3-0 loss.
Sophomore Brian Albert (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) took the loss for Norwich after allowing one run (unearned) on one hit in three innings. He registered one walk and one strikeout and falls to 1-1 on the season.
The Cadets are next in action on Saturday when they host Rivier University in a GNAC doubleheader. The games are set for 7 and 9:30 p.m. and will be played at Franklin Pierce’s Dr. Arthur and Martha Pappas Field in Rindge, N.H.
