Men's Lacrosse: Norwich defeats JWU in conference opener, 15-9

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Norwich University men's lacrosse team picked up their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory of the year on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Johnson & Wales Wildcats by a 15-9 final score in both team's conference opener and a rematch of the 2018 conference championship.

Parker Campbell (Rockaway, N.J.) lit the lamp for the Cadets first with a goal off a Jack Anzalone (Ridgewood, N.J.) assist before Aidan Moulton (Danvers, Mass.) stayed hot and found the back of the net for his seventh goal of the year to make it 2-0 Norwich early on. JWU finally got on the board with a man-up goal, but Cody Moore (Canton, N.Y.) collected his first goal of the day soon after to send Norwich into the first break with a 3-1 lead.

Ben Farrell put on a show in the second quarter for the Wildcats, scoring three goals within a five-minute window to bring JWU to within a goal. Payden Masaracchia (Enola, Pa.) answered the call for the maroon and gold, burying two goals in just 0:39 to send Norwich into halftime with a 7-4 advantage. That was all the Cadets needed, as they controlled the second half by an 8-5 margin to cruise to the 15-9 victory.

Payden Masaracchia tied a career high with four goals on just seven shots to lead the way, while Cody Moore, John Jennings (Riva, Maryland), and Parker Campbell all recorded a pair of goals each. Kevin Horchak (Mullica Hill, N.J.) picked up a goal while handing out three assists on the day, and Jack Anzalone recorded a pair of assists to go with his goal. Brandon Milburn (Bridgewater, N.J.) made 12 saves in net to pick up his second victory of the season, and Norwich dominated the faceoffs to a 21-28 tune behind Joseph Santangelo (Fallston, Md.) and his 13-15 effort.

Norwich improves to 3-2 on the season and 1-0 within the GNAC. They'll finally open their home schedule this Tuesday evening, when they host Skidmore College at 6:00 PM.
