Swimming & Diving: Cadet Men, Women Top Eagles

BANGOR, Maine – The Norwich University men's and women's swimming & diving teams competed in a dual meet at Husson University on Sunday.

The Cadets completed the weekend sweep with the men's team claiming a 183-76 in and the women's squad taking a 149-143 final.

The team of sophomore Olivia Kelliher (Weymouth, Mass.), fellow sophomore Megan Duffy (Shelton, Conn.), junior Keely Purington (Kailua, Hawaii) and freshman Nikki Ansley (Berlin, Germany) won the women's 200 yard medley relay in 2:00.04. Duffy went on to win the women's 1000 yard freestyle in 11:14.66, setting a new pool record in the process. She also won the women's 100 yard butterfly event in 1:02.65 and the women's 100 yard breaststroke in 1:11.01.

The team of junior Joseph Clark (Acworth, Ga.), sophomore Michael Kuehne (Auburn, Mich.), sophomore Gordon Suwirjo (Derry, N.H.) and senior Alex DiGiacomo (Norfolk, Mass.) won the men's 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:44.05. Junior Sam Carlson (Dedham, Maine) claimed first place in the men's 1000 yard freestyle in 11:17.58. Clark also won the 50 yard backstroke in 27.06 and the men's 100 yard backstroke in 57.89. DiGiacomo took first in the men's 100 yard butterfly in 55.71. 

Ansley won the women's 200 yard freestyle in 2:05.05, the women's 100 yard freestyle in 57.10 and the women's 200 yard IM in 2:26.99. Freshman Derek Furtado (Plymouth, Mass.) won the men's 200 yard freestyle in 1:54.85 and the men's 50 yard butterfly in 26.09. Junior Cameron Ferreira (Cocoa Beach, Fla.) took first in the 50 yard breaststroke with a time of 29.91 and won the 200 yard IM in 2:08.33. Kuehne went on to win the men's 100 yard breaststroke in 1:06.0 and Suwirjo claimed the men's 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:26.28.

Senior Domonique Ector (Buffalo, N.Y.) won the women's 50 yard butterfly race in 29.72 and the team of sophomore Brian Parrott (Londonderry, N.H.), junior Michael Dziatko (Marlborough, Conn.) senior Harrison Brock (Alexandria, Va.) and DiGiacomo won the men's 200 yard freestyle relay in 1:32.88.

The Cadets are back in the pool on Saturday, January 25th for a home dual meet against WPI. Norwich will honor its senior class before the start of the meet, scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
