BURLINGTON, Vt. – Members of the Norwich University men's and women's swimming & diving teams took part in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light the Night event on Friday evening at Edmunds Middle School in Burlington.
NU swimmers and divers (as well as members of the men's basketball squad) created the team, named Norwich Cadets Against Cancer, and set a fundraising goal of $200. The team ended up overshooting their goal and fundraising $348 for the event. In all, $91,266 was the final tally fundraised amongst all the teams.
"The event holds a special place in junior Keely Purington's heart because her cousin who lives in Essex (Team: Cole Fight Win) has leukemia and looks forward to this walk every year, even before he was diagnosed." Head Coach Jennifer Cournoyer said. Purington competed on two teams this year, with her second squad, Cole Fight Win, raising $8,426.01, good enough for second overall in team competition.
