Swimming & Diving: Cadets Fall to WPI on Senior Day

The Engineers swept the Cadets with two close final scores, 149-135 on the men's side and a 146-127 win in women's competition. 

Sophomore Megan Duffy (Shelton, Conn.) took first in the women's 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:08.98. Duffy wasn't done, as she won the women's 500 yard freestyle in 5:20.83, breaking a 20 year old school record in the process.

Freshman Nikki Ansley (Berlin, Germany) won the women's 50 yard freestyle in 25.52 while fellow freshman Jack Brennan (Hopkinton, Mass.) won the men's 1-meter diving, five voluntary dive competition with a score of 139.87. Ansley went on to win the women's 100 yard freestyle in 56.54 and the women's 100 yard IM in 1:05.76.

Senior Will Micali (Brentwood, N.H.) took first in the men's 500 yard freestyle in 5:22.10 with junior Keely Purington (Kailua, Hawaii) claiming the top spot in the women's 100 yard butterfly in 1:11.06. Senior Alex DiGiacomo (Norfolk, Mass.) won the men's 100 yard butterfly with a time of 55.99.

Sophomore Sarah Carls (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) won the women's 1-meter diving, six optional dive competition with a score of 199.20. Brennan took first in the men's event, posting a score of 216.90.

Junior Cameron Ferreira (Cocoa Beach, Fla.) won the men's 100 yard IM in a time of 58 seconds flat. The team of senior Domonique Ector (Buffalo, N.Y.), sophomore Olivia Kelliher (Weymouth, Mass.), Purington and Duffy won the women's 200 yard freestyle relay in 1:49.71. Sophomore Brian Parrott (Brentwood, N.H.), senior Harrison Brock (Alexandria, Va.), senior Austen Greene (Herndon, Va.) and DiGiacomo took the men's 200 yard freestyle relay in 1:32.20.

The Cadets are back in the pool on Friday, January 31st for day one of the 2019 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championships. The event spans the entire weekend and wraps up on Sunday, February 2nd.
